We took a day to attend the HTA show in Coventry this week. It was lovely to meet up with the HTA team and spend time in the exhibition. So many growers are finding new ways to reach customers with new products and eye catching stands. Suttons Seeds were there, so we snapped a pic of their QR code banner they were using to promote grafted stock. The talk by Michael Marriott of David Austin Roses helped inspire garden centre owners to make sure staff are knowledgeable and that roses are well displayed and well watered. Interestingly the advice from Michael was to encourage customers not to be afraid of complicated pruning regimes, but to pitch roses as easy to look after plants that just need straightforward pruning and a common sense approach. This supports the idea that customers don't like to feel they lack knowledge about a product.
